Do you love being by the sea and would like to play sports even while on holiday? If you are near Badesi with the family and want to make your days in Northern Sardinia more dynamic and interesting, the stretch of coastline running from the Li Junchi beach to Castelsardo offers a wide range of opportunities for water sports enthusiasts as well as interesting excursions to do while on holiday with the children!
Whether you are a novice or veteran surfer, Badesi is the perfect place. The location and its opening onto the Golfo dell’Asinara create the ideal conditions for this type of sport, with lots of places to surf making it one of the best sites in Northern Sardinia. You can choose to rent a longboard or take sailing lessons in Badesi, with coaching by experienced instructors for both adults and children. If you are spending your holidays in Sardinia in August, do not miss the Italian Longboard Fisurf championship with professionals from around the world putting on great shows among the waves of the Golfo dell’Asinara. This is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in Badesi with music, sun and fun.
But if for a few hours you want to avoid just ‘lazing around’ on the beach or by the pool, why not spend some time discovering one of the 10 best holiday destinations in Italy for hospitality. or what would you say to a tour of the North of Sardinia as far as Castelsardo?
Follow the coast westwards and in just 15 minutes drive you reach the traditional medieval town of Castelsardo, a little gem that dominates the Golfo dell’Asinara. Go and discover its little medieval old part with its narrow streets and charming squares as far as the Castello dei Doria, the only fully intact castle in Sardinia and from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view towards Asinara. Do not miss the refurbished Mim – Museum of Mediterranean weaving: wicker baskets, fishing creels and flour sieves for bread-making created according to ancient traditions with cane, straw and dwarf palms. A new exhibition space is dedicated to African objects from the Mediterranean basin.
On the way back, make a short stop at the famous Roccia dell’Elefante or Elephant Rock. Simply pull the car over and admire at first hand this trachyte boulder that has been eroded and sculpted over time and which has now taken on the form of an elephant. The rock is as old as Sardinia itself and inside two ‘Domus de Janas’ can be seen, typical “houses of the fairies” according to popular culture but which are in reality tombs dating back to the Neolithic period.
For nature lovers, in just ten minutes by car you can get to the mouth of the River Coghinas, the longest river in the North of Sardinia. From here, you can go up the river or along the bike path beside the river, both of which are perfect for bird watching as they pass through the luxuriant marsh vegetation. This is the perfect opportunity to take pictures of wildlife species such as the white heron and marsh harrier. A breathtaking landscape between salt and fresh water, between the sea and the Mediterranean maquis.
Whether it is for a full day or just a few hours, we recommend that you go and see these unmissable places in the North of Sardinia.
